Fiji comes back to secure electrifying win over South Africa in final pool game

Fiji produced another stunning comeback to claim an electrifying 20–14 victory over South Africa in the final pool match of the Perth 7s tonight.

South Africa struck first, crossing for an early try to take a 7–0 lead. Fiji’s task became tougher in the fifth minute when Douglas Daveta was shown a yellow card, giving South Africa a numerical advantage.

The Blitzboks made it count, scoring again to extend their lead to 14–0.

Just before halftime, momentum swung when South Africa received a yellow card of their own.

Fiji capitalised immediately, with Boginisoko powering over for their first try of the match to cut the deficit to 14–5 at the break.

Fiji came out firing in the second half.

Boginisoko broke through the defensive line and crossed again, but the try was ruled out.

Undeterred, Naduvalo then scored Fiji’s first try of the second half to further close the gap.

Moments later, Naduvalo struck again for his second try, as South Africa were handed another yellow card, giving Fiji a crucial numerical advantage.

Despite South Africa’s late attacking efforts, Fiji held firm and had the final say when Iowane Teba scored the match-winning try, sealing a memorable 20–14 comeback win.

5th minute, Douglas Daveta was given  a yellow card and Fiji with the numerical disadvantage.

6.03 SA scores second try to lead 14-0.

SA gets a yellow card for throwing the ball away.

Boginisoko scores Fiji's first try to narrow the deficit as they go the break 14-5.

Boginisoko broke the defense line in the second half and was held at the line score to deny Fiji a try.

Naduvalo scores the first try for Fiji in the second half to narrow deficit to 14-10.

3rd minute in the second half, Fiji's scrum and Fiji attacks Naduvalo scores his second try to help Fiji take the lead 15-14.

4th minute, Maisamoa wins ball and another yellow card given to SA.

5th minute Teba scores a try to put Fiji back in the lead 20-14.

7th Maisamoa runs the ball out to secure the win 20-14.

The Cup semi-finals kick off at 4.57pm Sunday, with the Cup final scheduled for 9.04pm.
