The Fiji U17 Girls Futsal team is set to create history after securing its first-ever place at the 2026 Youth Olympic Futsal Tournament in Dakar, Senegal.
Fiji will face host Senegal, Colombia and Ukraine in Group A during its first appearance at the global youth futsal tournament.
Head coach Jose Gerardo says the team is honoured to represent Fiji at such a prestigious international event.
Gerardo says they are very proud to make history for Fiji women’s futsal and that the tournament provides a major opportunity for the young players to compete against strong nations and showcase Fiji’s talent on the world stage.
He says they understand the challenge ahead will not be easy, but the team is preparing to give its best and make the country proud.
The tournament is expected to be a major milestone for the development of women’s futsal in Fiji, with the squad earning the chance to test itself against some of the best youth teams from Africa, South America and Europe.
Preparations are expected to intensify in the coming months as the team gears up for the global event in Dakar.
The Youth Olympic Futsal Tournaments Dakar 2026 will represent a landmark moment for futsal as a total of 160 players will compete across 32 matches between November 1st and November 12th, with action getting under way at the Iba Mar Diop Complex before the finals of both tournaments move across the capital to Dakar Arena.
