In 2025, Fiji's exports to China reached USD$73 million, an impressive increase of 162 percent, while bilateral trade reached USD$352 million, an increase of 22 percent year-on-year.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, Wang Yuan, highlighted this during the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China at the embassy.
Also present was the Acting President Chief Justice Salesi Temo, members of Parliament, the Diplomatic Corps, senior RFMF and police officers.
Wang says China is making every effort to increase imports from Fiji, with the aim of bringing this year's imports to about USD$100 million.
He says China and Fiji have signed a framework agreement on an Enhanced Economic Partnership Agreement (EEPA) and are actively advancing negotiations on specific issues so that the agreement can benefit businesses and people in both countries at an early date.
Wang says people-to-people exchanges are becoming increasingly vibrant, and through Chinese government scholarships and training programmes, more Fijian students and civil servants have opportunities to further their studies in China.
He says despite the challenges brought about by the global fuel crisis, China has remained committed to supporting Fiji's capacity building.
Wang adds that this year alone, more than 300 people from Fiji have benefited from training programmes in China, while more Fijians are also learning Chinese.
