Father and 2 others to take plea on 28th May in relation to 6-yr-old boy’s death
38-year-old Savenaca Damuni, the father of the deceased 6-year-old boy, along with Raviravi Timberyard directors Vinay Prakash Chandra and Sushila Devi, will take their plea on the 28th of May.

Damuni is charged with one count of manslaughter arising from a breach of duty.

It is alleged that while reversing a forklift, he struck his son, causing injuries that led to his death.

Chandra and Devi are charged with one count of corporate manslaughter.

They are alleged to have permitted Damuni to operate the forklift despite knowing he did not hold the required licence.

The alleged incident took place on 2nd May 2023.

State lawyer Simione Seruvatu says he has filed and served information.

Defence lawyer Jiten Reddy told High Court Judge Justice Dane Tuiqereqere that he needs more time to instruct Chandra and Devi on the plea.

Bail has been extended for all three accused.

Justice Tuiqereqere reminded them to comply with their bail conditions.
