Fareed's bail pending sentencing application has been denied

Fareed's bail pending sentencing application has been denied
Former Fijian Holdings Limited Chief Executive Officer Nouzab Fareed's application for bail pending sentencing has been denied.

Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola said that Fareed lost his freedom of movement after he was found guilty and convicted.

He says there is also no appeal of judgement at this stage that would allow the court to consider bail.

The Chief Magistrate says his favour of bail has been displaced.

Fareed was present in the courtroom this afternoon.

He was found guilty on two counts of indecent assault.

The offences were committed on 25th June and 13th September 2019.

The sentencing submission and mitigation will be held next Friday.

During the trial, the victim gave evidence that around May 2019, she had an appointment at the former CEO's office for a job.

She said that during the appointment, the then CEO asked her about being engaged too young and when she stood up to leave, he hugged her and sniffed her hair and neck for five seconds before she left.

She said that she went blank and didn't know what happened.

The former employee mentioned that a few days later she had an interview and started working for the company after which the incident occurred again.
