Emotional scenes unfolded as the six medical officers who were missing at sea for more than 30 hours arrived at Lakeba Subdivision Hospital, where they were welcomed by colleagues and loved ones.

Many were seen in tears as they embraced one another, bringing an end to an anxious search that had prompted prayers and concern from people across the country.

The Ministry of Health says the six are in a stable condition at Lakeba Subdivision Hospital.

The Ministry has confirmed to fijivillage News that all six were brought to the hospital earlier today for medical assessment following their rescue southwest of Lakeba.

They say the medical workers remain under observation and are receiving the necessary care.

The six had been reported missing after the boat they were travelling in experienced engine failure while returning from a medical outreach programme in the Southern Lau Group.

The Republic of Fiji Navy earlier confirmed that all six were rescued safely after they were located southwest of Lakeba by the vessel Lomaiviti Princess 12.

The Health Ministry has thanked everyone involved in the search and rescue operation, as well as those who kept the medical workers in their thoughts and prayers.
