Travelling to Perth remains one of the toughest assignments in Super Rugby Pacific, but the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua believe improved preparation and growing experience on the road can help them overcome the challenge against the Western Force tonight.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson says he acknowledges the difficulties of winning in Perth, comparing the challenge to overseas teams travelling to Lautoka, which he describes as a fortress for the Drua.
Jackson says the side has experimented with different travel schedules over the years in an effort to minimise the effects of long-distance travel.
He says they have focused on ensuring players are properly prepared physically and mentally.
Jackson believes the current Drua squad is now far more experienced when it comes to handling travel demands and performing away from home.
The coach says while results on the road have been inconsistent, he does not believe travel alone is responsible, adding that players are learning how to manage themselves and perform under difficult away conditions.
Jackson pointed to the Drua’s recent victory over the ACT Brumbies in Week 10 as proof the side can win in difficult environments.
He says defeating the Brumbies away from home gave the squad confidence and belief heading into another difficult Australian fixture.
Jackson adds the Drua enjoy playing against the Force after beating them in Fiji earlier in the season, but says the challenge now is to reproduce that performance away from home.

The Drua take on the Western Force in Perth tonight at 9.35pm as they continue their push in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
In other games, the Reds will face Moana Pasifika at 4.35pm, while the Hurricanes will take on the Highlanders at 7.05pm.
