Dog shoots woman with shotgun at Nebraska convenience store

Police responding to reports of a shotgun blast at a convenience store sounds like the opening scene of many American crime films, but when officers in Nebraska attended a recent incident, they discovered an unusual culprit: a dog.

Local television station KNOP News 2 reported that police in the town of Scottsbluff were called to a convenience store following reports of a shotgun being discharged.

When officers arrived, they found a truck with damage to one of its doors and a woman who had been struck in the arm by a shotgun pellet.

However, investigations revealed the shooting was caused by a dog. The vehicle had pulled up outside the store when the dog was moving across the back seat.

The dog somehow triggered the shotgun, which had a live round chambered, causing it to discharge. The blast damaged the vehicle and struck a woman nearby.

The victim was taken to hospital but did not suffer serious injuries.

It is illegal in Nebraska to drive with a loaded shotgun in a vehicle.
