The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection’s Department of Women has conducted a series of capacity-building activities aimed at strengthening the economic resilience of women in rural and maritime communities. The Department reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women in rural communities, with activities focused on raising awareness of climate change challenges affecting communities across Kadavu and identifying sustainable, community-driven solutions. Roko Tui Kadavu Jioji Banuve acknowledged the Ministry’s timely visit, saying this is the first government ministry to visit Kadavu following the impact of Tropical Cyclone Vaianu.

He emphasised that the visit holds significant meaning for the people of Kadavu, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts and community development. Discussions were also held on upcoming programmes for women in Kadavu, with both the Provincial Council and the Ministry exploring opportunities for closer collaboration to better serve and uplift women across the island. The Ministry says it is committed to ensuring that no woman is left behind, particularly in rural and maritime communities, by providing access to training, resources, and opportunities that promote sustainable livelihoods and resilience.
