Citizens’ Guide to 2026–2027 National Budget launched to improve public understanding
People will now be able to better understand the 2026–2027 National Budget following the launch of the Citizens’ Guide to the National Budget, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
The guide is available on the Ministry of Finance website.
While launching the guide, Minister for Finance, Esrom Immanuel, said the publication reflects the government's commitment to greater transparency, accountability, and public participation in financial management.
He says the simplified guide is available in English, iTaukei and Hindi.
Immanuel says the Citizens’ Guide presents the key features of the national budget in a concise and reader-friendly 20-page publication, outlining the government's revenue and expenditure plans, major policy priorities, economic forecasts, and the medium-term fiscal strategy.
The Minister says the 2026-2027 National Budget, passed in Parliament on 16th July, projects $3.82 billion in total revenue and $4.87 billion in expenditure, resulting in a fiscal deficit of about $1 billion or 7 percent of GDP.
He also reveals that public debt is projected to reach $12.6 billion, equivalent to 84.8 percent of GDP, by the end of July 2027.
The Minister also thanked the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts for assisting with the iTaukei translation, as well as officials from the Ministry of Finance who helped produce the guide.
