Multi-Ethnic Minister, Charan Jeath Singh was ordered to withdraw from Parliament and its precincts for one and a half hours this morning.
This is after Parliament Speaker Filimone Jitoko found Singh guilty of disorderly conduct and the use of unparliamentary expressions in relation to a Point of Order raised during Parliament's Committee of Supply debate following a heated exchange over the Tuatua Gas Crematorium in Labasa and allegations of racial vilifications on the 16th of July.
The Speaker has also asked Singh to apologise.
The Speaker ruled that phrases such as “you listen to me” and “listen here”, were unparliamentary and disorderly.
The Speaker also found Singh’s response to Honourable Alvik Maraj’s interjection to be disorderly and in breach of the rules governing debate and the decorum of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Speaker also found Opposition MP Alvick Maharaj guilty of disorderly conduct for shouting an interjection during Singh’s statement on different religions and practices.
Maharaj has been directed to write a letter of apology to the Office of the Speaker, conveying the same sentiments to the Chair and Members of Parliament, with the apology to be entered into the official records.
