Category 1 TC Vaianu forms 650km Northwest of Viti Levu, flash flood alert remains

Tropical Depression 11F has intensified and has now been upgraded to a tropical cyclone and is officially named Tropical Cyclone Vaianu.

The Category 1 system is located about 650 kilometres Northwest of Viti Levu and moving Southwards at 10 kilometres per hour.

The Fiji Meteorological Office says the system is expected to move South to Southeast wards in next 24 hours.

Tropical Cyclone Vaianu currently has sustained winds of about 75 kilometres per hour near its centre, and is expected to intensify to around 93 kilometres per hour by 12pm tomorrow.

It is not expected to make landfall.

A flash flooding alert and a heavy rain warning remains for the whole of Fiji.
