Bula FC targets long-term consistency after securing top-four spot in OFC Pro League

Bula FC targets long-term consistency after securing top-four spot in OFC Pro League

With Extra Bula FC in the top four of the OFC Pro League, head coach Stéphane Auvray says satisfaction comes from transforming amateur players into professionals with determination and a winning mentality.

Following the 2-1 win over Auckland FC in their last match of phase 1Auvray says they started very well in terms of their playing style but could not capitalise on the chances.

He says they wanted to build confidence in the players, so they adjusted their approach and sacrificed some of that style to secure wins.

Auvray says now they need to return to a better structure and game management because that approach is not sustainable in the long term and not what he wants for the players.

Auckland FC is leading the table with 29 points, South Island in second place has 22 points, Bula FC has 21 points, while South Island United is in fourth place with 20 points.

With two crucial matches remaining, Auckland FC facing South Island at 5pm and South Melbourne taking on Tahiti at 7pm tomorrow, the race for the final stages of the tournament is heating up.

The league will then enter phase two where it splits into a Leaders and a Challengers Group.

Bula FC, after confirming their spot in the top four, will play one match each against the other top-four teams.

The teams that finish in the top three will qualify for the semi-finals, while the fourth-placed team will play against the winner of the Challengers Group, where the bottom four teams have competed against each other.

The semi-finals is on the 20th of May and the final is the 24th of May in New Zealand.

The OFC Pro League will also determine who represents Oceania at the annual FIFA Intercontinental Cup™ and the quadrennial FIFA Club World Cup™.
