Bainimarama says he cannot stand for election because of his case

Former Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says he is not behind the formation of a political party as he cannot stand for the 2026 general elections because of his court case.

When asked about the former FijiFirst MPs crossing the floor and supporting the government, Bainimarama did not mince his words.

The FijiFirst Party was de-registered in July 2024.

The Opposition split into two blocs on August 5th, 2024, where 25 MPs became independent.

The Group of 16 Bloc is being led by the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, and their Whip is Jone Usamate, while Ketan Lal is the Deputy Whip.

The other Group of 9 Bloc is being led by Ioane Naivalurua, their Whip is Viliame Naupoto, and their Deputy Whip is Alipate Tuicolo.
