Former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and former Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho’s inciting to mutiny case has been transferred to the High Court.
They appeared before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad this morning, where they chose the matter to be transferred to the High Court for trial.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, John Rabuku informed the court that he wants to amend a charge, and the defence did not object.
Rabuku says full disclosures have been served to the defence.
He also says there are no confessions from Bainimarama and Qiliho, however, there is sufficient evidence, and the State maintains its position.
The matter has been adjourned to the 5th of June.
Bail has been extended for Bainimarama and Qiliho.
For the second count of inciting to mutiny, it is alleged that Bainimarama and Qiliho between the 1st of July 2023 to the 31st of July, 2023 jointly spoke to Lt Colonel Atunaisa Vakatale, Colonel Aseri Rokoura, Colonel Viliame Draunibaka and others, who were senior officers of RFMF in their joint attempt to incite the senior officers to unlawfully arrest and take over the authority of the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Major General Jone Kalouniwai.
