A father and two others charged in relation to the death of a six-year-old boy in Vatuwaqa in 2023 have been remanded in custody and will appear this afternoon for a bail hearing.

It is alleged that the boy passed away following an accident at a timber yard in Vatuwaqa on 2nd May 2023.

The first accused, a 38-year-old man, has been charged with one count of manslaughter arising from a breach of duty.

It is alleged that while reversing a forklift, he hit his son, causing injuries that led to the child’s death.

The second accused, a 48-year-old man, and the third accused, a 52-year-old woman, have each been charged with one count of corporate manslaughter.

They are alleged to have permitted the first accused to operate the forklift despite knowing he did not hold the required licence.
