Apisai Madigibuli to be sentenced on July 2nd for murdering pregnant wife
Apisai Madigibuli will be sentenced on the 2nd of July, for killing his pregnant wife, Kitiana Baravilala in 2023.

During sentencing submissions in the Suva High Court today, State lawyer Talica Vakaloloma highlighted the seriousness of the offence, describing it as a premeditated murder committed under the guise of co-parenting.

The State is seeking a starting point of 20 years imprisonment.

Vakaloloma told the court that the couple's young daughter, who witnessed her father stabbing her mother, continues to suffer trauma from the incident.

She also noted that Baravilala was vulnerable at the time, as she was four months pregnant.

The prosecution further submitted that the effects of the intimate partner violence have extended beyond the victim, leaving the family to care for the couple's daughter.

Madigibuli was not remorseful for his actions.

He has spent 2 years, 1 month and 22 days in remand, which the court will take into account during sentencing.
