Anthony calls for common identity, not division

Fiji Trades Union Congress National Secretary, Felix Anthony says there should be no division along racial lines when discussing national identity in Fiji.

While speaking after making their submission to the Constitution Review Commission, Anthony shared his views when asked by the media about the Commission’s comment that the Great Council of Chiefs strongly believes that the term ‘Fijian’ should be reserved for the iTaukei people only, and not as defined in the current Constitution.

Anthony stresses that the trade union movement is non-racial and believes there is only one race — the human race.

He says if the country is serious about unity, then people should not be divided by race, culture, or tradition.

Anthony adds that a common national identity is needed for all Fijians.
