Alleged threat incident in Tubou leaves teachers concerned for safety

Teachers teaching at Ratu Finau Secondary School in Lau are worried about their safety following an incident on Saturday where two men who were allegedly intoxicated threatened four male teachers with cane knives and a spade.

Ratu Manasa Yavala told fijivillage News that the incident occurred between 12pm and 12.15pm in Tubou Village.

Ratu Manasa says they have heard that the two men had previously behaved in a similar manner towards villagers, but they are unsure whether the matter was reported to Police.

He says on that day, they encountered the situation themselves.

He says they were waiting at the village shed following their return from the farm, when the two men from Tubou Village approached and allegedly threatened them.

Ratu Manasa says this is his sixth year of teaching at Ratu Finau and this is the first time something like this has happened to him there.

Police say the two suspects were arrested and are in custody at the Lakeba Police Station.
