Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, better known as Thalapathy Vijay, has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following the victory of his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led alliance.

Soon after taking the oath, Vijay signed three major files, including 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers, the establishment of a special women’s safety force with a helpline, and a statewide anti-drug mechanism.

Speaking after the ceremony, he warned supporters against the misuse of power and stressed that there would be only one power centre in the government.

He also claimed the previous government had left the state in financial difficulty and announced plans to release a white paper on Tamil Nadu’s finances.

Vijay described his victory as a debt of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu rather than just an election win.

He said he entered politics to repay the love and support people had shown him over the years and promised transparent governance.

He also said his government would not misuse public funds or make false promises.

At the same time, he pledged to continue the state’s welfare-focused policies, saying free electricity and social justice would remain priorities under his administration.

He declared that a new era of real, secular social justice had begun in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by political leaders, supporters, film personalities, and members of Vijay’s family.

Vijay’s party secured enough support to form the government in the 234-member Assembly, and he is expected to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly before 13th May.
