Youths raise awareness on mental illness

Youths raise awareness on mental illness
In addressing the stigma against mental illness around 10 youth facilitators will be observing a 24 hour silent advocacy on the streets of Suva from tomorrow.

Facilitator at youth champs for mental health Lionel Rogers said as part of the advocacy these youth facilitators will wear tapes over their mouths to signify how those living with mental illness do not have a voice.

He added that another significance of the tape is to highlight how the stigma associated with mental illness needs to be silenced.

He said pledges will also be collected by the group to provide a hot meal for homeless psychiatric survivors.

The campaign is also a lead up to World Health day next Monday.
