Suicide is the leading cause of death in Fiji with the youngest case being a 7-year-old child.

Officer In Charge at Lifeline Fiji, Jeremaia Merekula, says every year, males have recorded the highest number of suicide cases with more than 70% of completed suicide cases last year being males.

He says about 80% of callers they receive every year have always been male.

He adds for males, it has always been the case that they don't show emotions or weakness as they want to show their strength.

He also highlighted that every 36 hours, a Fijian attempts to commit suicide.

Meanwhile, Lifeline Fiji received a donation of $5,000 from TOPEX to support their work.
