The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji has confirmed that the boating accidents that occurred in Yasawa, Tuvuca and Baulevu were all breaching the MSAF legislation.

MSAF Chief Executive Officer Joweli Cawaki says they will allow the police to do their investigations first to determine whether it was negligence or manslaughter as it is for the police to decide.

Cawaki says those who breach the rules will face fines and penalties.

He says it is sad that people continue to take matters into their own hands and risk the lives of others without thinking about the consequences of their actions.

When questioned by fijivillage News whether those who died will be compensated, he says they will not.
