World Bank plans to give US$100M to Fiji
World Bank Pacific Country director Franz Drees-Gross

After returning to democracy last year Fiji could be a recipient of 100 million US dollars from the World Bank.

In an interview with Radio New Zealand the Bank’s Pacific country director, Franz Drees-Gross said it is keen to assist in developments in Fiji.

Drees-Gross said he has held meetings with the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He said they expect to come to Fiji with a re-engagement strategy in March and then have an envelope for Fiji of somewhere on the order of a hundred US million dollars over the next two years.

He said the World Bank expects US$50 million to go into the transport sector while the balance is yet to be programmed in other sectors.
