Women and children of Lomati village in Kadavu evacuated due to tremors still being felt

Some women and children of Lomati village in Kadavu have been  evacuated to the villages in Yawe because of the tremors that are still being felt in parts of Kadavu.

This has been confirmed by Lomati Village Headman, Pauliasi Tamani who says that the landslides from Mount Washington during the 5.3 magnitude earthquake wiped out some of their plantations.

Tamani says luckily the earthquake occurred on Sunday and no one was in the plantation.

He says they are glad to hear that the National Disaster Management Office will be arriving tomorrow to conduct their assessments.

We also got confirmation that some parents in the village of Talaulia have taken their children to Yawe because it is a flat land area.

The NDMO and the Mineral Resources Department will be departing Suva for Kadavu tonight.

We have received on the ground reports of aftershocks being felt by villagers in the Nabukelevu and Tavuki area up until last night.

Nabukelevu District School Head Teacher, Josese Salabiau says they have felt the tremors from last Sunday until last night and the situation has not changed so far.

Salabiau says school programs are contining as normal for them.
