A woman who was charged with a count of Child Stealing has been sentenced to 1 year and 10 months imprisonment which has been suspended for two years by the Labasa Magistrates Court.
Asena Raivoli by force or fraud took away a newborn baby from his mother from the Children’s Ward at the Labasa Hospital in April last year.
Magistrate Cama Tuberi says Raivoli left the child in the cassava patch when she realised that police were coming after her.
Magistrate Tuberi says Raivoli has regretted her action and learned a lesson from this case.
