Emergency Water trucks filling up water for people affected by the prolonged dry weather condition

The Commissioner Western’s Emergency Task Force Team responsible for distributing water to areas affected by the prolonged dry weather condition is concerned about the amount of water being used for washing cars, gardening and washing clothes.

Divisional Planning Officer Western, Sitiveni Tavaga says emergency water supply should only be used for drinking and cooking.

Tavaga is also calling on people to use water sparingly.

Meanwhile Tavaga confirms that they have started distributing water to some areas in Lautoka where people are relying on wells and boreholes.

15,000 litres of water has been delivered to Tuvu and Paipai.

About 30,000 people have been affected by the dry weather conditions in the Western Division.

Tavaga says they have already distributed 300,000 litres of water to the Yasawas and another 140,000 litres has been delivered to the Mamanuca Group and Yanuya Island.

Tavaga says they have carted 280,000 litres of water on the main land of the Western Division which includes the interior areas between Sigatoka to Tavua.

$200,000 has been allocated to cater for water carting and fuel costs.

Tavaga says water levels remain healthy at the reservoirs and the people really affected by the dry weather are those not getting piped water supply.
