Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says government is still assessing the damage caused by TC Yasa and they will see how this can be financially managed once full assessment is complete.

Sayed-Khaiyum says a team from the National Disaster Management Office is currently carrying out an assessment in the Northern Division and they will get more specifics regarding the cost of rebuilding soon.

He says there has been no massive washing away of roads but a lot of water catchment areas have been clogged up which needs clearing.

The Minister also says that a number of Energy Fiji Limited poles have gone down which is currently being addressed.

Sayed-Khaiyum says this is why the assistance provided by Australia is important for rebuilding.

He adds there is no need to relocate funding from other Ministries at this stage.
