Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed–Khaiyum says one key issue in the agriculture sector is that we have an ageing farmer population.

While speaking at the Central/Eastern Agriculture Show at Syria Park, Sayed-Khaiyum says their drive is to attract younger people to the agriculture sector.

He further says we need a younger crop of farmers to get into the agriculture sector to ensure there is sustainability adding that there are enormous amounts of money to be made in the agriculture sector.

Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji's agricultural exports have increased by about 7% for the six months of this year in comparison to the same period last year.

Sayed-Khaiyum adds 80 to 85% of freight on freight flights were agricultural products this year.
