Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar.

Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar they first need to develop regulations before working on the enforcement on the new Town and Country Planning Act which ensures that the owners maintain their buildings in cities and towns.

Kumar says the Act is very old which was introduced before our independence and constant review was not done previously.

She says they are undertaking a major review and it will help them deal with those owners who do not take care of their buildings which becomes an eyesore.

Kumar highlighted that some of the buildings in Suva City really look bad.

The Minister says an announcement was made in the last National Budget that incentives will be given to people who renovate their commercial building externally but this has not been taken into consideration.

Kumar says they need to make these landlords more accountable and responsible.
