“We will give it our best shot”.
That is the assurance from Digicel Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula ahead of their opening pool game against France at 1.44 this afternoon.
After wrapping up their preparation in Wellington, Tanivula believes his boys are in their best frame of mind to change history and become the first ever Fiji side to win the tournament back to back.
Tanivula said being in 4th spot in the IRB 7s series with 32 points means that they have to deny teams like Samoa, England and New Zealand a win this weekend.
South African coach Paul Treu, whose side is grouped with Fiji, said it is not easy for any side in the series.
Treu said that their past record against Fiji does not favour them but they have to look at ways to try and do well tonight.
For the host team New Zealand, coach Gordon Tietjens believes that their fans want a win on their home soil and the challenge will be huge for his players.
And while history does not favour Fiji, rugby fans believe the current team will be able to do the country proud this weekend.
The Fiji team to play against France in the opening pool game this afternoon at 1.44pm in the forwards, Jerry Burotu, Watisoni Votu and Apisai Nayabo with captain Emosi Vucago at half back, Ilai Tinai at playmaker, Mitieli Nacagilevu at rover and Joeli Lutumailagi on the wing.
The first game of the 2011 New Zealand 7s kicks-off at 1pm with Kenya playing Samoa.
Fiji will play France at 1.44pm then Canada at 4.40pm with a show down against South Africa at 9.12pm.
