We believe vaccination for children is the way forward – Dr Waqainabete
Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.

Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says there is now growing evidence in terms of COVID-19 vaccination for children and they are looking at this.

He highlighted this after SODELPA MP Salote Radrodro had suggested that a portion of the $25 million allocated for COVID-19 contingency fund in 2021/2022 National Budget can be used for suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Dr Waqainabete says the European Union has already started vaccinating children and they believe this is the way forward

He says we need to have funding for that.

Dr Waqainabete also says there is growing evidence that at some stage we might need to give a booster dose of the vaccine and they want to be able to provide that if necessary

He has also highlighted about having a Border Health Unit at the DFAT building in Nadi.

The Health Minister says this will look at the complex issues of travel in the new normal.
