The Publisher of Fiji Sun Limited, Peter Lomas said that they are ready to buy the Fiji Times if News Limited and it's sales agent are unable to get a buyer.
Lomas said that Fiji Sun is serious about it's proposed purchase although the Commerce Commission has said that it will not allow the Fiji Sun to own both newspapers as it would become a monopoly in the print media industry in the country.
When questioned on the monopoly status this could create in the print media industry, Lomas said Fiji Sun is planning to have two newspapers targeting the different readership.
Although a News Limited spokesperson has denied that Fiji Sun had offered to buy the Fiji Times, Lomas said they had made the approach to the sale agent Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the Commerce Commission.
When Fijivillage News contacted Jenny Seeto of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, she only confirmed that the sale process is continuing and they hope to have a successful bidder before the deadline of September 28th.
