Water levels rising in Nadi, Ba and Rakiraki
As the Nadi Weather Office predicted earlier today, Nadi, Ba and Rakiraki residents are now facing the full brunt of the adverse weather conditions in the country.

People are advised that the Nadi River is about to burst its banks and residents should take the necessary precautions.

The Ba River has burst its banks and heavy rain continues in Ba.

DISMAC has advised residents and business owners in the Nadi town area to evacuate to higher ground as the Nadi River continues to rise.

Areas that are flooded in Nadi include Nadi market to the Catholic Church, Narewa village, Saravi settlement, Korociri settlement and Nawatikuma settlement.

Police with the RFMF had to provide personnel along with trucks to help transport people from Saravi settlement to their nearest evacuation centre.

St Andrews Primary School is now open as an evacuation centre.

Around 60 people have sought shelter at Saint Andrews Primary School.

Nadi hospital road is currently closed and Nadi back road towards the Mobil Service station is also underwater.

One of the residents of Korociri, Penisoni Waki said water entered their houses and a number of families living in the low lying areas including his family have moved to Saint Andrews Primary school and Nadi College for shelter.

Waki said most of the items in the house are wet and damaged.
