Six baby whales beached at Yasawa

Permanent Secretary for Environment Joshua Wycliffe says warmer waters caused by climate change could be one of the reasons behind the death of six baby whales however this has to confirmed through an investigation.

The six baby whales were hauled up on a beach near Bukama village in Yasawa on Thursday.

All the baby whales were dead by the time any of the villagers saw them.

Wycliffe says an investigation has commenced and officials from relevant government ministries and agencies are on the ground to prepare the findings.

Meanwhile, when earlier questioned by Fijivillage on whether the sea temperatures may have played a part in the mysterious deaths of the baby whales, the Nadi Weather Office says that they do not have recordings of the sea temperature.
