20 years ago, a young Waisale Serevi Junior was carried on his father's shoulders to the winning podium during the World Cup final in Hong Kong, and this year, he has made his rugby debut for Japan 7s in the Melrose Claymores tournament, currently underway in Hong Kong.

The tournament features Asian teams and runs alongside the Hong Kong 7s.

In a Facebook post, legend Waisale Serevi says 36 years ago, he first played in Hong Kong, and now, 36 years later, he watched his hero, Waisale Pierre, play for Japan 7s at Kai Tak Sports Park today and score a try.

Serevi described it as a memorable moment for his family that he will never forget.

He says although Junior is representing Japan he is happy that he is following his dreams and making use of his God-given talent.

Junior says his father plays in the back line but he can adjust to both backline and forwards if the coaches need him.

He says he wants to create his legacy knowing his father made Fijians proud in the field.

Junior stresses it's a huge task to fill in his father's shoes but he tries his best to do so.

Meanwhile, Serevi’s younger daughter, Asinate has played for the national women’s 15s team and is currently playing for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s team.
