Waiqele gardener left homeless after suspected arson destroys home

A gardener in Waiqele, Labasa, has been left homeless after his two-bedroom house was destroyed in a fire on Saturday night.

Dharman Prasad, who lived alone, suspects the fire was an act of arson.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Prasad claims that he smelled fuel just before taking a shower around 10.30pm and to his shock, he also discovered that the water metre was also turned off.

The 41-year-old says he was unable to save any of his belongings, with the estimated damage around $15,000.

Prasad says he had sustained minor injuries while escaping the house.

If you wish to assist the family, you can contact him on 2827693.

We have sent questions to the National Fire Authority.
