$800 million is needed by the Water Authority of Fiji over five years, to be able to get their assets in the condition that they can provide services to all Fijians.

WAF Chief Executive Officer Dr Amit Chanan says this is to ensure that their existing assets continue to do what they are doing.

He says this amount does not cater to if they want to add climate resilience assets to the existing assets.

Dr Chanan says currently, they are producing 3 million litres less for the Suva Nausori system.

When questioned on how much was used to replace the transformers at the Waila Water Treatment Plant, WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg says the cost of the transformers, with the entire works, cost them about $4 million in investment.

He says this is to purchase the transformers, the installation and all of the shutdowns, including the cost of the water carting that they had to factor in as part of the cost of the entire project.
