Vunaniu man who allegedly caused death due to dangerous driving remanded in custody

The driver who is alleged to have caused the death of a man from Navutulevu on Sunday has been remanded by the Navua Magistrates Court.

31-year-old Tomasi Matia of Vunaniu, Serua has been charged with one count of Dangerous Driving Occasioning Death, one count of Dangerous Driving Causing Grievous Bodily Harm and one count of Failure to Supply Sufficient Sample For Breath Analysis Upon Direction of a Police Officer.

The incident allegedly occurred along Queens Highway near Naboutini.

Police say that Matia had fled the scene and was arrested from his residence in Matanivusi Settlement on Monday.

The truck which was loaded with sand was heading towards Sigatoka when Matia allegedly lost control of the vehicle resulting in the accident.

He will appear in court on the 23rd of this month.
