People who have a weak immune system and a reduced ability to fight infections and other diseases will be offered an additional dose of World Health Organisation's Emergency Use Listing COVID-19 vaccines.

The Ministry Of Health says the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization have recommended that moderately and severely immunocompromised persons should be offered an additional dose as part of an extended primary series since these individuals are less likely to respond adequately to vaccination following a standard primary vaccine series and are at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease.

The Ministry of Health will be offering third doses to these eligible persons.

It says booster doses for those over 60 years old, those 18 years or older with medical conditions that put them at high risk of COVID-19 and those 18 years and older who work in locations that put them at high risk is currently being planned for.

The Ministry is expected to release further details regarding third and booster doses in due course.
