Use stats when talking about mental health issues – Kuruleca

Talking about mental health issues from a statistical point of view would be a good start to have discussions on the issue.

While highlighting this, renowned Psychiatrist, Selina Kuruleca says globally statistics show that post COVID, 1 in 5 adults has a mental health issue.

Kuruleca says before COVID it used to be 1 in 10.

She further says even though we do not have any stats for Fiji as such, these trends are consistent world over.

Kuruleca also says we have come a long way from 2010 in terms of providing psycho-social support to people but again more can be done.

She adds we need more psychological first aid training to identify the signs and then refer the people to relevant authorities for assistance.
