The Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa says there is an urgent need to carry out a special inquiry into the fire incident that broke out this morning at the Lautoka hospital.
Ro Teimumu says it is of great concern that an incident such as this has occurred.
She has commended the immediate actions taken by medical staff of the Lautoka Hospital in evacuating patients upon receiving news of the fire.
Ro Teimumu says the Opposition also acknowledges firefighters who risked their lives trying to save others’ lives and preventing the fire from spreading thus avoiding a major disaster.
She has also thanked police officers and the military for their presence in ensuring the safety of patients and the public.
The Health Ministry will release a statement later today.
