Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has called on the people of Fiji to understand that the Public Emergency Regulation (PER) is currently in place.
Commodore Bainimarama said anyone who breaches the regulation will be arrested and charged, and will appear in court.
The Prime Minister stressed that people should not be misled that the Methodist Church Conference will go ahead this year, as the government and military have made it clear that no permit will be issued for the meet.
The Permanent Secretary for Information and Military Spokesperson said Rewa's paramount Chief Ro Teimumu Kepa is being investigated in relation to a statement released on Tuesday which could be termed as a form of incitement.
Lt. Colonel Neumi Leweni said some members of the Methodist Church have now been taken in for questioning and will be released once the investigations are completed.
He said the few church members who are pushing a political agenda should learn from the civilian coup of 2000 where many members of the Methodist Church were misled by failed politicians which only took the country backwards.
Ro Teimumu Kepa along with about 4 Methodist Church executives were taken in for questioning and Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said they have also discovered that the Methodist Church ministers have told their congregation that the conference will go ahead this year which is a clear breach of the Public Emergency Regulation.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni has only said that the church executives and Ro Teimumu were taken in for questioning.
He said he cannot say anything else until later this afternoon.
