Umlesh Lata Sharma wins Navtarang and Radio Sargam FMF Diwali Thali Competition

It was a proud moment for 63-year-old Umlesh Lata Sharma as she took home the first prize in the FMF Diwali Thali Competition organized by Navtarang and Radio Sargam at 231 Waimanu Road in Suva.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Sharma says she was delighted to have participated and even more thrilled to have won the top prize of $500.

She says she began her preparations on Sunday and made all the sweets and savories herself.

A passionate cook and baker, Sharma says this is the third year she has taken part in the competition.

Sharma says her win is proof that nothing is impossible, and encouraged others to pursue what they love.

She also extended her warm wishes to everyone for a happy and prosperous Diwali.

Meanwhile, 70-year-old Sugra Habib from Makoi claimed the second prize of $300, and says she began her preparations a week in advance, making sweets in small quantities.

Third place went to 24-year-old Farzana Nisha, who received $200.

She says she is participating for the first time and is proud of her achievement.

Diwali will be celebrated next Tuesday.
