The US has promised Ukraine that they and its allies will supply more air defence in its battle against Russia.

President Joe Biden announced the news at the 75th Anniversary of NATO in Washington, saying that Ukraine can and will stop Russia's President Vladimir Putin.

He says the US and four other countries, including Germany, Netherlands, Romania and Italy - would provide Ukraine with dozens of additional tactical air defence systems within months.

Biden says that 23 nations are now spending the mandatory 2 percent of GDP on defence spending, and the alliance is committed to preventing autocrats from taking power.

He says this moment in history calls for their collective strength.

Biden adds that Putin wants nothing less than Ukraine's total subjugation, to end Ukraine's democracy, and to destroy Ukraine's culture, and to wipe Ukraine off the map.

The US President says Putin will not stop in Ukraine.

This comes a day after a children's hospital in Kyiv was hit by missiles, leaving several people dead and hundreds injured.
