WAF CEO says prolonged dry season is affecting Nadi water system

As people across the country prepare for Diwali, families living in Uciwai, Nadi continue to struggle with irregular water supply due to the prolonged dry season.

Asha Devi Krishna says the problem has been ongoing for years and despite countless complaints to the Water Authority of Fiji, the situation has not improved.

Krishna says for the past week, they haven’t had any proper water supply and even when water does come, it’s only for one or two hours at night.

She explains that the inconsistent water supply has made life extremely difficult for working families where they have to wake up just to fill the containers.

She further says that many families are now forced to buy bottled water, which is becoming costly.

Krishna says that they have called the 1508 and 5777 numbers to request for carting but WAF is not responding.

While responding to our questions, WAF CEO Seru Soderberg says the issue with the Nadi system is due to the prolonged dry season.

He adds that the team will look into the issue and ensure water carting trucks are delivering water to the affected areas.
