The USA Women’s 7s team, who are in Fiji for the Fiji Airways International Mini 7s Series in Lautoka this week, took some time out from their training and paid a visit to Namaka Public School in Nadi.

The team shared some rugby drills and games with the students.

USA coach Emilie Bydwell says they simply passed by Namaka Public School last Saturday and were captivated by the sight of people wholeheartedly engaging in rugby.

She says the Fijian passion for the sport is truly remarkable, and they are here to embrace it all.

Bydwell says being in a country that has rugby as a part of their culture and heritage aligns well with their team values around connection, selflessness, courage and resilience.

She adds it's nice to be somewhere they see those values being lived out every day.

This is the first-ever visit of the USA 7s team to Fiji, and Bydwell has welcomed the opportunity provided by Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s coach Saiasi Fuli and Fiji Rugby to immerse themselves in the Fijian culture and connect with this rugby-loving nation.

She says they will use this opportunity to see where their training has placed them and ways they can improve as they play against the top teams in the Women's 7s Series.

The Fiji Airways International Mini 7s Tournament will take place at Churchill Park in Lautoka, with the exciting addition of two teams, the USA and Australia’s main team, joining the competition.

The tournament will held tomorrow and Friday.
