US elections a cliffhanger

Projections are out for 41 out of the 50 states in the US elections and it is a cliffhanger.

Republican, Donald Trump has now taken the lead after winning another key swing state, Florida.

He had earlier taken Ohio.

Ohio has backed the winner at every presidential contest except one since World War Two.

Last time, Barack Obama won by three percentage points.

Trump has also taken Georgia.

Georgia has voted Republican since 1996, but the party has seen its margin of victory eroded in recent elections so Trump will be happy with this win.

Based on the votes counted and projections, Donald Trump has 244 electoral college votes while Hillary Clinton has 209 electoral votes.

Trump needs 26 electoral votes to win while Clinton needs 61 electoral votes.

The first candidate to reach 270 electoral votes out of the 538 will be the next President of the United States of America.

Looking at the states:

Trump is projected to win Ohio, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Kansas, North and South Dakota, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa, Utah and Louisiana.

Hillary Clinton is projected to win Virginia, New York, Washington, Vermont, New Jersey, DC, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, Illinois, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Meanwhile as the US election results continue to flow in, Twitter reports that 40 million election related tweets have been sent just today alone.
