Two Tubou villagers charged for allegedly breaching PER

Charges have been laid against two men from Tubou village in Lakeba for allegedly breaching the Public Emergency Regulations.

One man has been charged with one count of malicious act and three counts of forgery.

Police have also charged his accomplice with one count of inciting and giving false information.

The two were brought in from Lakeba yesterday following investigations that they allegedly wrote a letter to Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama informing him that he was not welcome on the island of Lakeba, and the signatures of elders, chiefs and representatives on the letter were forged.

Police spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed both are in police custody and expected to appear in the Suva magistrates court tomorrow.
