Police are now clamping down on those shops who are selling items which they do not have the right to sell as the copyright does not belong to them.

This is after a book shop in Lautoka was raided on Friday afternoon for allegedly selling textbooks which involved copyright issues.

Suva Book shop who has the exclusive copyright to sell certain text books found out from members of the public that the same books were being sold by a company in Lautoka.

Acting Divisional Crime Officer Western, ASP Manasa Talala has confirmed that a raid was carried out and copies of text books have been confiscated.

Police are now trying to establish certain facts before proceeding with investigations.

Meanwhile, two more shops have been raided in Lautoka this afternoon for allegedly selling pirate DVDs and CDs.

Acting Divisional Crime Officer Western ASP Manasa Talala has confirmed that the raids were carried out as part of their effort in cracking down on shops for violating the Amendment Copyright Act which came into effect on Tuesday this past week.
